Upcoming Premier League Matches
The Premier League is widely considered one of the world’s premier soccer leagues, boasting 20 teams that each compete in 38 matches between themselves and each of the other 19 sides – two matches against each other and one against all 19 sides.
Opta’s supercomputer predicts Wolves to beat newly promoted Southampton on Friday with 47.5 percent chance, while Tottenham are strong favorites against Ipswich without winning yet this season.
West Ham vs. Everton
Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s solo strike secured Everton three points against West Ham United at London Stadium. The striker took full advantage of an error by Jack Harrison’s defense by turning inside the box before unleashing an unstoppable shot into the bottom left corner.
West Ham and Everton met for the 57th time in Premier League play this evening, with Everton taking an edge overall based on 29 wins shared between both clubs – 14 of those coming at London Stadium alone.
Everton are hoping to edge past West Ham United in the league table, and a win would give them much-needed momentum. Unfortunately, they will have to do without Armando Broja, Youssef Chermiti, James Garner and Timothy Iroegbunam for this matchup; Abdoulaye Doucoure can now feature again after missing several months through injury.
Manchester United vs. Tottenham
The Premier League season kicks off this Friday, August 16, when Manchester United take on Fulham for their inaugural fixture. On Saturday August 17, Ipswich Town make their long-awaited comeback after 22 years. On Sunday August 18, Enzo Maresca makes his home debut as Chelsea manager against West Ham United.
Liverpool may find their early season schedule challenging, yet if they play consistently well through to February 21 they could secure themselves a top four finish with some help from City rivalry. Their first meeting takes place November 30 and their second is set for Feb 21.
Louis van Gaal will face an easier schedule than David Moyes did, although two home games against Tottenham and Arsenal remain. Their final 10 matchweeks may pose more difficulty, although late November/early December games against Spurs, Brighton and Chelsea should prove manageable with an effective start.
Chelsea vs. Arsenal
Arsenal are desperate for all three points when they take on Chelsea in their final match before the international break, having fallen seven points behind leaders Liverpool and Manchester City. A win at Stamford Bridge would put pressure back onto them and keep pace with them in the race for Premier League survival.
Kai Havertz and Ben White scored goals to put Arsenal back into title contention against Chelsea at home on Saturday with their 5-0 rout, making this their second victory against them this season at Arsenal’s stadium, Thomas Tuchel must be feeling the heat of Arsenal’s win!
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have struggled in attack recently and appear exhausted after an exhausting week that saw them defeat Newcastle before drawing with Inter Milan 1-1 in Europe. Cole Palmer may be unavailable, while Martin Odegaard may make his comeback from injury; on their travels they have only managed one goal in six premier league – kamper!
Manchester City vs. Liverpool
The 2024 title race appears set to come down to the wire as Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal all appear strong contenders for victory. A showdown between these top two clubs should certainly provide plenty of thrills and spills!
Pep Guardiola has never managed to beat Jurgen Klopp during his eight years at the Etihad, and this meeting could prove pivotal. Liverpool currently hold an edge of one point over City and are level in points; therefore a win for Klopp’s side would further increase their advantage and provide crucial momentum heading into 2019.
Liverpool are currently beset with a range of injuries, with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, Diogo Jota, Joel Matip and Ibrahima Konate still unavailable, as well as Ibrahima Konate possibly sitting this one out. Mohamed Salah will return after impressing as a substitute in their 5-0 Europa League win over Sparta Prague midweek; Jurgen Klopp has kept his injured side competitive thus far this season; that should continue on Sunday as well.
